Succession Planning
Continuity is a commercial decision.
We help boards understand where leadership continuity is secure, where it is not, and what to do about the difference.
The business problem
The question before the appointment.
Succession risk is often invisible until it arrives. In owner-led and founder-led businesses in particular, critical knowledge sits with very few people.
We identify the roles the organisation cannot afford to lose, assess internal readiness honestly, and evidence the external market as a comparison.
What it includes
The work itself.
- Critical role identification
- Internal talent and readiness review
- External market benchmarking
- Succession risk assessment
- Development priorities
- Board-level succession reporting

Frequently asked questions
The questions clients raise most often before we begin. If yours is not here, ask it directly and you will get a straight answer rather than a proposal.
- Can succession work stay confidential?
- Yes. Most of our succession work is conducted discreetly at board level.
- How do you assess internal readiness?
- Against the requirements of the future role rather than performance in the current one, using structured evidence and external comparison.
- Which roles should be covered?
- The roles the organisation cannot afford to lose. That is usually a shorter list than the leadership team and sometimes includes roles below it.
- Do you tell internal candidates they are on a plan?
- That is your decision. We advise on the consequences of both approaches and support the conversation either way.
- How often should a succession plan be reviewed?
- Annually as a minimum, and immediately after any change in strategy, ownership or leadership.
