Talent Mapping
Know the market before you approach it.
Talent mapping gives a board an evidenced view of the market: who exists, where they sit, how teams are structured, and what it would take to move them.
The business problem
The question before the appointment.
Decisions are often made on a partial view of the market. A single conversation, a competitor rumour, or an assumption about availability can shape a hiring plan that the evidence does not support.
We build the map systematically, function by function and organisation by organisation. The output is a working document a leadership team can return to, not a one-off list of names.
What it includes
The work itself.
- Market and competitor structure mapping
- Talent pool sizing and location analysis
- Leadership pipeline and succession opportunities
- Organisational mapping of target businesses
- Geographic talent intelligence
- Report-style output for board use

Frequently asked questions
The questions clients raise most often before we begin. If yours is not here, ask it directly and you will get a straight answer rather than a proposal.
- Is talent mapping confidential?
- Yes. Mapping is regularly used where a leadership change cannot yet be signalled to the market.
- What does a mapping report contain?
- Market structure, named individuals by tier, team shapes at target organisations, movement patterns and an assessment of who is realistically approachable.
- Do you approach the people you map?
- Only if you ask us to. Mapping can stay entirely at desk level, or extend into discreet market testing conversations.
- How long does a map take to build?
- Typically three to five weeks for a defined function and geography. Broader multi-market mapping is phased.
- How current does the map stay?
- Senior markets move slowly, so a map holds for six to twelve months. We refresh it on request before a decision is taken.
